Your long-stay visa must be validated online within three months of arriving in France.

Reviewed 10 September 2026 · Official source checked 28 October 2026

What this is

A long-stay visa marked VLS-TS acts as your residence permit for the first year, but only once you validate it online. You have 3 months from your date of entry to do this.

What it costs (updated 1 May 2026)

The validation tax stamp is now 300 EUR. A reduced rate of 100 EUR applies to students, trainees, au pairs, seasonal workers and family reunification cases.

How to do it

  1. Go to the ANEF portal at administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr.
  2. Create an account and enter your visa number, date of entry and address.
  3. Pay the tax stamp online.
  4. Download and keep the confirmation - it is your proof of legal residence.

If you miss it

You are technically in an irregular situation and can be refused a renewal. Contact your prefecture immediately rather than waiting.
